Shared on Facebook by an IMB missionary helping Alur Believers proclaim the eternal gospel among their Unreached People Group:

"Have you ever milked an elephant? Sounds intimidating, tiring, dangerous, and it brings up some strange images. We had to laugh when Pastor Jacob came out of his group after teaching stories for a couple of hours. The people were not learning and he was struggling to help them by telling the story over and over and it became exhausting. He said, ‘This is like milking an elephant.’ I arrived back at home from the training in Nebbi. We are thankful that some of the participants were able to learn the story and go out and share with others. That is the most exciting thing to see- that folks who do not think they can share with others can go out and share the Word of God effectively. We were disappointed that we did not get to cover all the things we had planned. You can pray for these folks as they struggle with a number of setbacks due to their own poor communication, lack of planning, and readiness to learn. Especially the women do not have much education and have been told they cannot learn and we worked to encourage them to believe that God can help them learn. This is heart breaking to see that folks are not able to receive what you have to give to them. It is difficult to train folks who do not believe they can learn. However, we feel certain that at least one or two from each church will be able to move forward with a vision for making disciples. In a month or so the trainers will go back and see the reliable faithful 2 Timothy 2:2 people. The trainers did their best to "count it all joy" as we walked through various setbacks. (James 1:2) Thanks for your prayers. Is anyone ready to come and milk elephants for the glory of God?"

ADDED NOTE from missionary: “Please remind folks that I am leaving Sunday afternoon for training in northern Zombo district for another training today through the 27th with tri-lingual believers (Kebu,Alur, and Lugbara speakers). Local Believers have planned the entire month of March to plant a Lugbara church in Adraka village, just to the north of where the training will be held. They say they have 40 believers coming to the training to get ready to go to the community of Adraka. Just think about the potential of what that means.”

More of this story is shared in the February 16, 17 and 20 postings from Sub-Saharan African Peoples.
