Celebrating new partners joining our workers, volunteers and partnering churches in West Africa: “Heart overjoyed! Sending out missionaries to the Songhai from men God has raised up within our ministry… leaders within our ministry displaying Godly Character, Ministry Competence, and Missional Calling. Through the local churches they represent, we seek to partner in sending them out to Songhai Lands.”

Workers seeking prayer: “As the Zambian maize is being harvested, pray that there will be a harvest of souls ready to trust in Jesus in the villages where we and volunteers from Oklahoma Baptist University will work throughout June. Pray that Zambian believers from existing churches and the volunteers will be encouraged by each other’s testimony and witness as they worship and serve together.”

Additional nudge to prayer from workers in Toposaland in South Sudan: “More prayer is needed. A team from Southwest Baptist University… arrive on our compound today. They will spend almost three weeks in Mogos continuing where Calvary Baptist Church left off (yesterday’s Nudge to Action for SSAPeoples). Please pray for rain, safety, and open ears to the gospel.”

Thanks and nudge to prayer from workers among the Toposa People South Sudan: “We had a great time last week in Mogos with Calvary Baptist Church, one of our partnering churches. Three different storying groups were started. A total of 19 people gave their lives to Christ! Much prayer went before this team and we thank you for that.”

Workers among Sub-Saharan African Peoples sometimes find health, family or work problems difficult to share.  Claim Psalm 17: 6,7 today for those unable to fully share the prayer requests deep in their hearts: “I call on you, O God, for you will answer me; give ear to me and hear my prayer.  Show the wonder of your great love, you who save by your right hand those who take refuge in you...”

From DUMA – Durban (South Africa) Prayer Network*: World Book Day was celebrated in April at a local primary school. Through donations given by FUGE summer camps, each student received a book and a "mini-book" gospel tract to take home to their parents. Pray for the over 600 students and families that received tracts... for God's truth to penetrate the hearts of those who need a relationship with Him.

NEEDED: Churches willing to take the Good News to East African people groups with little or no access to the Gospel – people who may not welcome an open evangelistic approach. Churches willing to make the sacrifice and the long-term commitment needed to reach coastal people living without hope of heaven. Interested? Info and ‘how-to’s found at http://www.twende-eastafrica.org/.

From West Africa: “We feared it would never happen due to the responsibilities of women in the Songhai culture, but Discipleship Training for our women is finally happening. Pray that the14 Believers attending will grow deeper in their knowledge of and relationship with the Lord and will take His Name and story to their friends, family, children, and others in their villages.”

A Must Read: The story of “a firefighter, a state trooper, a financial planner, a surgeon, a scientist, a senior pastor, a photographer, a writer, a petroleum engineer, a pediatric nurse, a college teacher, a software developer — even a would-be comedian” who did something about their “desire to obey Jesus Christ and (their) deep burden for peoples across the world searching for Him.”

Have you been on a mission trip to Africa? If your answer is NO, take a few moments to view "Alabama Baptists overcome challenges to reach a remote island people group in West Africa"* and travel along by plane, truck, boat and foot, including wading “through a little bit of water” and hiking more than a “little bit”, with a team from a church committed to “bringing God’s saving grace” to the Unreached/ Unengaged Ejamat people of Senegal. If your answer is YES, compare what they did and learned with your experiences!
Info on how you and your church can EMBRACE an Unreached/ Unengaged Sub-Saharan African People who “have never heard about Jesus” is found athttp://subsaharanafricanpeoples.imb.org/embrace.

“I’m so happy. We now have a beautiful place to pray.” The missionary was saddened as he overheard this comment while shopping. He knew the speaker would be praying to multiple gods in the new nearby temple. Would you join African Believers in praying that they will be strong and bold witnesses of their Saviour to those they encounter daily “who pray to gods that cannot save” (Isaiah 45:20)?

May 20, 2014

“Be my witnesses… to the ends of the earth" (Acts 1:8). Obeying our Saviour’s command may require traveling far from gas stations and purchasing petrol by the jug with ‘additives’ requiring a funnel AND a strainer to keep one's vehicle running! Pray for missionaries searching for the Unreached/ Unengaged Peoples of Sub-Saharan Africa who are still Unfound/ Unknown!

To EXPLORE these peoples, visit http://subsaharanafricanpeoples.imb.org/explore/sub/priority-people-groups. (Psalm 96:1-3)

The photo in yesterday’s Nudge to Action for SSAP, taken in South Sudan last Sunday, was captioned: “The Lord sent rain… just in time for baptisms this morning. We are walking to a place in the river that is deep enough to baptize.”  Praise God for last Sunday’s celebration with 200+ worshippers of the Unreached Toposa People when over 60 new Believers from 5 different churches were baptized!

May 17, 2014

And if you walked seven miles to church (yesterday’s Nudge to Action for SSAPeoples), would you be willing to walk even further after joining other worshippers? You would if you were among the few in your country, a country lacking peace, who had found the greatest source of peace AND you were on your way to celebrate a…. ANSWER shared tomorrow!

May 16, 2014

What must you do to attend a worship service this weekend? Thank God for Believers from five churches among the Unreached Toposa People who attended a joint service last Sunday in South Sudan, with some walking more than 7 miles (one way) to worship their heavenly Father.

From West Africa: “Every Tuesday morning for 5 months, ‘S’ waits for us in his yard, ready to listen to the 2 Jola radio broadcast Bible stories we share weekly.  Some weeks a young neighbor with lots of questions joins us and people passing by, also stop and listen.  Pray that ‘S’ and others hearing these stories would know that Jesus is the promised Savior and would want to accept Him as their Savior.”

May 12, 2014

From Zambezi Cluster: "These participants of a recent Youth Bible Schools came wanting to learn more about God and His word. Teachers (graduates from last year’s Bible School) said they are excited about what they're learning and want to live their lives for the Lord… a wonderful testimony for this program of theology and hands-on experience for future jobs (e.g. carpentry). Pray for these young people.”

Worker in West Africa reporting of her second visit with “a small group of women to share the Easter story over tea in 100+ degree weather under a mango tree.  As we shared today some new women asked questions about what it means to bel!eve.  So, we go, and share the Story.  Some days it seems the work is slow, but I am thankful for those who are willing to listen.”

Pray that the new peace deal which begins today in South Sudan will not collapse as the first did in January. Pray for speedy and effective relief for "a population in danger of mass hunger.” Baptist Global Response offers many ways for you to offer help the millions of South Sudanese in need of physical and spiritual help at https://gobgr.org/projects/project_detail/south-sudan-crisis.

Shared by Zambezi Cluster Prayer Needs*: “Beer-drinking is a way of life in the Ngoni village of Mpherembe, Malawi. Many who turn to Christ must not only recover from their addiction, but also try to stay strong when drinking is the central activity of village life. Pray that they would be strong in spirit to resist and overflowing with Christ's love as they represent Him to their neighbors.”

May 8, 2014

“Insurgents attacked a town in the north-east, massacring civilians during a busy market day…” It is reported that 100 to “300 residents died… during the five-hour attack.” What must Believers with a heart for peoples without our Father’s peace and love do as the news from Nigeria and other parts of our world is filled with news of death, fear and terror?  Stay informed and PRAY specifically and steadfastly.

The majority of the 875,000 CHOPI people in Mozambique, known for creating beautiful music on the mbila (a gourd xylophone) do not follow Christ… their music honors dead ancestors and the spirit world. Pray for Chopi musicians to come to know the Lord and bring glory to God through their music... to share the music of hope, Jesus, the true SONG.

Do you ever wonder how the monies you give to help others IS USED or IF IT IS USED wisely? Then you want to read the testimony* of 3-year old Labby, who once had a “day… full of firsts: nutritious food, clean water, a tooth brush, washing hands – and the first toilet she had ever seen,” thanks to those who gave to Baptist Global Response and the Global Hunger Relief (formerly World Hunger Fund).

Requests from first term workers in Sub-Saharan Africa:  “Pray that we do not forget what we have learned and are learning about the language and culture of our people.  Pray that what we have already learned in our language lessons will sink deeper into our minds and begin to make sense.”

May 4, 2014

Pray for safe and on-time travel for missionaries visiting the States this month to celebrate the college graduations of their kids. Pray for quality family time during their short visits. Pray for Missionary Kid graduates as they begin working/looking for work in a part of the world where they may still feel like strangers coping with ways and traditions very different from their African homes.

May 2, 2014

From worker among the Unreached Kaonde People: Many venders in our market claim to be Christian, but use charms to draw customers. They talk of witchcraft charms as if they are as common as sticks of gum… Pray for God to bless the Christian business people who cast out their charms. Pray for us and the Kaonde churches as we move into the tedious and draining, yet rewarding, work of discipleship.
