Shared on Facebook by an IMB missionary helping Alur Believers proclaim the eternal gospel among their Unreached People Group:

"Have you ever milked an elephant? Sounds intimidating, tiring, dangerous, and it brings up some strange images. We had to laugh when Pastor Jacob came out of his group after teaching stories for a couple of hours. The people were not learning and he was struggling to help them by telling the story over and over and it became exhausting. He said, ‘This is like milking an elephant.’ I arrived back at home from the training in Nebbi. We are thankful that some of the participants were able to learn the story and go out and share with others. That is the most exciting thing to see- that folks who do not think they can share with others can go out and share the Word of God effectively. We were disappointed that we did not get to cover all the things we had planned. You can pray for these folks as they struggle with a number of setbacks due to their own poor communication, lack of planning, and readiness to learn. Especially the women do not have much education and have been told they cannot learn and we worked to encourage them to believe that God can help them learn. This is heart breaking to see that folks are not able to receive what you have to give to them. It is difficult to train folks who do not believe they can learn. However, we feel certain that at least one or two from each church will be able to move forward with a vision for making disciples. In a month or so the trainers will go back and see the reliable faithful 2 Timothy 2:2 people. The trainers did their best to "count it all joy" as we walked through various setbacks. (James 1:2) Thanks for your prayers. Is anyone ready to come and milk elephants for the glory of God?"

ADDED NOTE from missionary: “Please remind folks that I am leaving Sunday afternoon for training in northern Zombo district for another training today through the 27th with tri-lingual believers (Kebu,Alur, and Lugbara speakers). Local Believers have planned the entire month of March to plant a Lugbara church in Adraka village, just to the north of where the training will be held. They say they have 40 believers coming to the training to get ready to go to the community of Adraka. Just think about the potential of what that means.”

Update on the Valentine’s Day party for an English class taught by workers among the Sereer people of Senegal. “Five class members showed up and two visitors… We played Valentine word games and talked about love... a great way to share with them how much God loves us.”
The workers ask that we pray that all of the students will return for today's English class.

Special Prayer Request

URGENT PRAYER REQUEST received from the missionary whose story is shared in today's (Feb 20th) NUDGE: "We need prayer here. There is a spirit of confusion here. Confusion came into the food budget and the local people could not sort out the problem until the trainers helped them. This caused a three hour delay in the training. Supper was not ready until 11pm. Some are distracted, others are afraid to learn. Florence told the story to her group in their language 20 times but nobody in the group can retell the story. We were not able to go out and share the story in the community because they are not ready. We need prayer so that people confess whatever is hindering them. James 1:5-8 applies here. We need wisdom for learning but wisdom is not given to the double-minded. We really want to send these folks out to share this afternoon if they are ready."

What happens when trained Alur Believers stop waiting for ‘missionaries’ to share the Gospel with their Unreached People and ‘go do it’? The first 20 people they taught to share the Gospel shared their stories with others and now there are new Believers in need of training!
Now for more of this story which was shared yesterday on Facebook by a missionary in Uganda who worked with four Ugandan Beleivers in Paidha in NW Uganda, near the Democratic Republic of Congo border:
I just arrived from the village in Paidha. Thank you for all the prayers. God is doing a great work through Jacob, Florence, John, and Sarah. We saw about 20 people at the training, some were new believers. They were able to learn a story and go out and teach others. We could see them catching the vision for making disciples. The need is immense, the area is huge, pray for workers. Compared to what is needed the training is actually so small but we were all amazed at the impact of a few truths that have been well understood and taught to people who are willing to obey. Most of the folks are not able to read and need Bible stories in their own language of Alur. Tuesday and Wednesday the trainees went out in the community to train others. About 12 people gave their lives to Christ and threw down their charms and other items of witchcraft and burned them. Keep praying that God will raise up and army of believers who have a vision for making disciples. Coming home was an adventure. We were stopped for speeding by police. Then the police stopped a bus for speeding. The people all came out of the bus and started shouting at the police. We just stayed quiet because the officer had my driving permit. Then the crowd was surrounding the officer and called the police chief. Eventually they took the bus to the police station and we were released and forgive for our good behavior. We thank God for helping us in so many ways. Next week we go to Nebbi for the second training....

Look tomorrow for more information on the ALUR People Group!
