Praise God today for Believers among Sub-Saharan African
Peoples who share their Father’s “miracles,
wonders and signs” and make sure that all their people have the opportunity
to call “on the name of the Lord” and
be saved and claim their hope and joy. (Acts 2:14-28)

A pastor
from California has “a story
about God’s work among Africans... One everyone needs to hear” learned through
a funeral in Tanzania of how “God’s plans are a whole lot better than our
plans.” Read his story and if you also “Have a story about God’s work among
Africans… (that) everyone needs to hear,” ADD
YOUR STORY!

States (plus Missouri) that a couple on STateside ASsignment visited last week as they traveled sharing what God is up to among Sub-Saharan African Peoples and how others can join in His work! Pray that after 2 to 4 years in their country of service, IMB missionaries will get a bit of rest and have quality time with family, friends and past and future partnering churches and volunteers during their STAS! Prayers for safety in travel are also needed for missionaries on Stateside, and yes that is what was once called furlough!

From workers in Botswana: “Since starting our 2nd term of service, we have had… pneumonia, poisonous spider bite, infections, and our 3 year old just broke out 3 top teeth. When God is at work, Satan definitely tries to… inhibit that work, which tells us that God is going to do some amazing things… (such as) more people… in bible studies and discipleships… pray that we would be physically, spiritually, and emotionally healthy.”

From Zambia: Last Sunday’s worship was with a small group–7 men and our family of 6… a sweet time of worship under the trees. I was humbled by the headman’s wife who prepared a lunch for us– goat, mushrooms, some greens. In this village, where water and resources are minimal… Twasalifia sana (ChiNamwanga) didn’t seem strong enough to express our thanks.

From workers among the Toposa of South Sudan: “Our celebration this year was awesome! I don't know how many people but there were many! The gospel was presented, we danced, sang, ate goats, ate maize flour, and had a great time celebrating the birth of our Savior, Jesus Christ! Thanks for the prayers. They were answered for sure.”
Earlier prayer requests and praises from the Toposa were shared on December 23, 26-31, 2014. Please continue paying for the unrest in South Sudan.

Last Sunday's report from a worker in Mozambique after new Believers studied Acts 2: “They discussed at length what it means to have your heart pierced through by the message of Truth... many of them testified about that moment in their own lives.” A challenge offered by one of the Believers: "When the Holy Spirit fills a person, they automatically talk about Jesus."

“Sing to the LORD … praise his name; proclaim his salvation day after day. Declare his glory among the nations, his marvelous deeds among all peoples. Great is the LORD and most worthy of praise; he is to be feared above all gods.” Pray for strength for those in Sub-Saharan Africa whose fear of other gods prevents them from “Ascribing to our LORD the glory due his name.” (Psalm 96)
January 16, 2014
And what does it take for workers among Sub-Saharan African Peoples to “Declare his glory among the nations, his marvelous deeds among all peoples” (Psalm 96:3)? Sometimes to “proclaim his salvation day after day” (v2), Believers must be “Totally His Heart, Hands, Voice” and FEET!

Thank God for Believers in Sub-Saharan Africa who “Proclaim his salvation day after day. Declare his glory among the nations, his marvelous deeds among all peoples” (Psalm 96:2,3), beginning with their own People and neighbouring People Groups!

Thank God for those who are training Believers in Sub-Saharan Africa to “Sing to the LORD a NEW song” (Psalm 96:1) in language of their People, using instruments and rhythms familiar to their People Group. Why? So they can “Sing to the LORD, praise his name; proclaim his salvation day after day” (v.2) clearly to their People.

The tear on the little one's cheek, quickly dried by a loving Christian grandmother, appeared when she met her first ‘foreign’ missionary. Pray that she and other Sub-Saharan African children will become Believers shedding tears for the Unreached among their own and neighbouring Peoples and desire to be ‘home’ missionaries.

What missionaries among SSAPeople do while in the States: “We eat in international restaurants… (and found) a Ghanaian restaurant ... the owner, a Hausa man, was from the small town in Ghana that we lived in a year… He was so surprised when we spoke Hausa. He became an instant friend! On our second visit we shared the seeker’s cassette with him in Hausa.”

New worker among SSAPeoples: “Just realized we’ve spent 3
months on the continent of Africa... We’ve survived our first holiday season
away from our family… attempted to learn a new language... made new friends
from 3 different continents... Mostly, we are learning to trust! To have faith!
To pursue!”

"There are many needs to reaching urban Lusaka, and it will take many partners… (in) church planting and development; leadership training; outreach to university students, youth and children (half the population of Lusaka is under the age of 16)… Ask God to multiply the teams and new missionaries... to reach Lusaka and see the city be transformed to be a witness for Christ to the world."!

Missionaries often pray Colossians 4:3, “that God may open a door for our message, so that we may proclaim the mystery of Christ”, omitting the phrase “for which I am in chains.” Pray for wisdom and comfort for workers with an open door among Sub-Saharan African Peoples, but the chains of illness or unrest in their countries prevent them from living among their people.

Waiting and watching.
She waited and someone came to her village to "Sing to the LORD…
proclaim his salvation." She watched
her people, her family, the elders of her village respond to “his glory… his
marvelous deeds among all peoples” (Psalm 96:1-3). Other kids, other villages, other peoples are
still watching and waiting. Who will
"Sing... a new song" to them?

This toddler is shooing chickens away. Many kids in Sub-Saharan Africa use sticks to
imitate guns spotted in their villages and cities, kids among the hundreds of thousands
of refugees fleeing violence in countries such as the Central African Republic
and the South Sudan. Would you take a
few moments today to read and allow current news* from Africa to nudge you to
prayer?

From workers in Senegal and Gambia: Pray for the Lord to
send out laborers into His harvest among the Jola-fonyi. Pray that radio
broadcasts will touch the hearts of many people and that God would lead us to
these people. Pray that the secret believers would have the faith and courage
to be baptized and share their faith with their family and friends.

What caught the attention of these kids? A Southern Baptist volunteer who came to their part of Africa to “Sing to the LORD… praise his name, proclaim his salvation… declare his glory… his marvellous deeds among the nations” (Psalm 96:1-3). Pray that more workers will respond to our Father’s call to work in his harvest field among Sub-Saharan African Peoples.

Yesterday’s conversation between missionaries in Sub-Saharan Africa: M1: Did you read today’s item on the prayer calendar? M2: Why? M1: Our co-workers prayed this morning for a need at our seminary. A group of volunteers showed up during the day and they provided for the need! M2: Jesus promised, “If you have faith as small as a mustard seed… Nothing will be impossible” (Matthew 17:20).
